Tata Power buys 30-MW Maharashtra wind unit

09 Mar 2016

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Ltd, has agreed to purchase shares of Indo Rama Renewables Jath Ltd (IRRJL), which owns a 30 mega-watt (MW) wind farm in the Sangli district of Maharashtra.

IRRJL is a 100% subsidiary of Indo Rama Renewables Ltd (IRRL).

IRRJL is fully operational since July 2013 and has a long-term power purchase agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

After this purchase, the power generation capacity of Tata Power will increase to 9,130 MW.

“Tata Power endeavours to generate 20-25% of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources. This is our third acquisition of an operating wind asset and we are in constant lookout for similar opportunities in respect of wind and solar plants,”  said Anil Sardana, CEO and MD, Tata Power.

On the other hand, Vishal Lohia, Executive Director, IRRL, said: “Divestment from wind assets shall enable us to have a more focused and effective approach towards our core business of polyester.”
