September 23: Two companies – Adani Enterprises and KISPL – have emerged top contenders in the tender floated by MMTC Ltd to supply imported coal to power sector consumers of Coal India Ltd (CIL), according to information available with ICMW.
The suppliers have emerged L1 bidders after MMTC segregated the tender of 0.532 mt floated on behalf of CIL in two parts, industry sources said.
Both Adani Enterprises and KISPL have emerged L1 bidders to supply imported coal each to CIL’s clients on the east and west coast ports.
“In the week ending September 20, MMTC has informed CIL about the offer prices received from the suppliers and now CIL will get consent of companies – CESC, Nabha, Talwandi Sabo and NLC Tamilnadu Power Ltd – to go ahead with the tender,” sources said.
ICMW understands that MMTC had divided the total quantity into two parts as per which around 40,000 tons was to be delivered on the eastern coast (CESC) and the balance around 470,000 to be delivered on the western coast ports (NLC, Talwandi, and Nabha TPP).
If the concerned companies refuse to take delivery of coal at the offered price, then CIL may have to work out something else, sources added.
ICMW had reported on August 26 that MMTC had floated a tender to procure 0.532 mt imported coal on behalf of CIL and to be supplied to above mentioned companies.
Despite repeated attempts, ICMW could not exactly find out the offer price for delivery through the east coast and west coast ports.
