US coal production rises 7.7% w-o-w to 16.1 Mmst

December 11: The estimated coal production in the US stood at 16.1 million short tons (Mmst) for the week ended December 5, 2015, up 7.7% compared to last week’s production of 14.8 Mmst.
The year-to-date production was 839.3 Mmts, about 9.6% lower than the production recorded for the same period last year. The US is the second largest coal producer in the world.
According to the latest report of US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the estimated production of 16.1 Mmst during the week ended December 5 was 20.7% lower than the figures reported for the corresponding week last year.
The EIA report further stated that the estimated production of east of the Mississippi river was 6.4 Mmst, up 8.47% week-on-week (w-o-w) and the estimated production of west of Mississippi was 9.8 Mmst, up 7.69% w-o-w.
