Ukrainian coal cargo offered at $82 per ton CIF India

June 10: One cargo of 1.50 lakh tons of Ukrainian steam coal was recently offered at $82 per ton CFR India, an industry source said.

“A cement company was offered the full cargo at $82 per ton CFR Kandla, but could not finalise the deal as it was looking for a small cargo size of 50,000 tons and also the company had problem with high sulphur in the material,” the source said.

The Ukrainian material had calorific value of 6250-6280 Kcal/kg (ARB) with sulphur content of about 3.5%.

Had the cement maker managed to deal with high sulphur, the cost per kcal of Ukrainian coal would have been around Rs 0.98 as against about Rs 1.05 per kcal for South African coal.
