Unions demand 50 % hike in wages of coal miners

The four trade unions that participated in the first meeting of the JBCCI-XI held at Coal India Limited (CIL) Headquarters today have placed a demand for a minimum 50 percent hike in wages of coal miners in comparison to wages that they were given on June 30, 2021.
Though it was an introductory session of the JBCCI-XI,the trade union leaders placed demands while speaking during the given time slot to speak.
Talking to Pioneer Lakhan Lal Mahto, an alternate member representing AITUC said, our leader Ramendra Kumar placed demand for the same and this happens to be the opinion of other central trade unions too.
Demand for gratuity to miners at par with executives from 1/12017 was also raised besides implementation of remaining of the agreements that was reached in JBCCI nine and ten regarding the medical unfit and other agreements .
The trade unions stressed for reaching an early agreement so that miners may be benefited.
CIL chairman Pramod Agarwal too stressed upon reaching an early agreement. However, also stressed upon the changing scenario of the energy field in coming decades.
The dependency on fossil fuel may drop in coming decades thus we need to be prepared for that too.
The chairman also stressed upon increasing production to meet the coal demand of the country now.
He said detailed discussion would be held during the second meeting of the JBCCI-XI that would take place in September. The unions objected to holding a meeting after a two months gap.
Senior trade union leaders including Ramendra Kumar, RC Singh and Lakhan Lal Mahto of AITUC, DD Ramanandan and Arup Chaterjee of CITU , Surendra Pander of BMS and SK Pandey ànd Sidhartha Gautam from HMS participated in the meeting.
Besides,CIL Chairman CMD of SCCL and top officials of CIL too attended the meeting.
