Unions demand return of cancelled blocks to CIL

September 24: The central trade unions of Coal India Ltd (CIL) have planned to hold a nationwide demonstration on September 26 to demand that the captive coal blocks scrapped by the Supreme Court be given to CIL.
“We demand that the blocks be handed over to CIL. We will hold a demonstration on September 26 to press for our demand,” a union leader of CITU-affiliated AICWF told ICMW.
The unions had earlier called for a three-day “work to rule” strike this month to protest the Centre’s move to disinvest its shares in CIL, but withdrew its call later.
“We are holding consultations with various stakeholders and will come up with further actions, as and when required, to stop the privatisation and disinvestment moves,” he said.
