V O Chidambaranar sets coal targets for berths
18 Jan 2016
V O Chidambaranar Port Trust notified on January 13, 2016 that it had revised berth norms to improve performance of the port. The output norms of coal handled at berth no. IX was fixed at 24,000 tons per day and VOC 3 and VOC 4 were fixed at 12,000 tons per day.
The official release informed that the revision considered the recommendations of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In order to achieve the output norms of 24,000 tons per day, the agency concerned are necessarily required to make use of at least one Harbour mobile crane (HMC) in their vessel.
Using HMC for discharge of coal has been made compulsory to enable users to avoid payment of penal charges on the vessels for not achieving the target output. If the users do not indent for HMC for handling of coal at berth no IX, their vessel will not be considered for berthing. The above rule came into effect from January 13, 2016.
