VISL procures 20,000t met coke through e-auction

Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISL) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), on March 31, procured 20,000 tons of domestic low-ash metallurgical coke through e-auction.

According to information available with ICMW, the procurement was done at a plant- delivered price of Rs 13,505 per ton and a south India-based met coke manufacturer had emerged as the lowest bidder.

The price that was arrived at in the auction appears to be quite competitive as the declared price of met coke from Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) is Rs 11,500 per ton ex-plant for delivery in March.

VISL had floated the tender on February 2 with the last date for submission of offers till February 23, which was subsequently extended to March 5.

The desired specification for the material, which VISL was looking to procure, was ash (dry basis) of 12-13%, total moisture of 4-10%, VM of 1.0-1.5%, sulphur of 0.60-0.75%.
