Non-coking (steam) coal imports via V O Chidambaranar Port (Tuticorin Port) stood at 776,400 tons in February 2016, down 2.24% month-on-month from 794,229 tons imported in January 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
For the first 11 months (April-February) of the current fiscal (2015-16), imports of the material via the port stood at 11,032,249 tons against 8,615,823 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15).

In February 2016, out of the total quantity, a volume of 161,000 tons came from Russia at a price range of Rs 3,765 -Rs 5,422 ($55-$79) per ton, 10,000 tons from South Africa at a range of Rs 3,005 - 4,411 ($44-$64) per ton, 248,770 tons from Indonesia at Rs 1,831 -Rs 5,423 ($27-$79) per ton while 356,630 tons came from other locations at price ranges not available.
In January 2016, out of the total quantity, a volume of 102,874 tons came from Russia at a price range of Rs 5,327-Rs 5,346 ($79-$79) per ton, 22,000 tons from South Africa at a range of Rs 4,346 - 4,570 ($64-$68) per ton, 357,722 tons from Indonesia at Rs 1,771-Rs 4,937 ($26-$73) per ton while 311,633 tons came from other locations at price ranges not available.
