November 13: Port of Visakhapatnam (Vizag Port) has completed the work of deepening of its inner harbour channel and turning circle recently, an official from the port told ICMW.
Post-completion of the deepening work, the draft at berth EQ7 has increased from 12.5 metres to 13.6 metres, the official said.
This initiative is going to benefit the users because the shifting charges will be reduced in a big way, the official said.
He said, initially ships used to come to the outer harbour first where a part of the cargo was being unloaded before the ship entered the inner harbour and that entailed a slight cost.
But after the completion of the inner harbour, the ships can come directly to the inner harbours. As a result, the cost would come down, he added.
