Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag went up 25.06% month-on-month to 408,963 tons in January 2016 against 327,006 tons in December 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In January 2015, coking coal imports through Vizag Port stood higher at 533,340 tons.
Total imports of the material for the first 10 months (April-January) of the current fiscal of 2015-16 were at 3,918,616 tons against 4,501,807 tons reported in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15), showing a drop of 12.95% year-on-year. Thus, along with steam coal imports, coking coal too has been showing a downtrend in terms of overseas supplies.
In financial year 2014-15, coking coal imports through the port stood at 5,512,372 tons.

Imports in January 2016 comprised 342,879 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,683 – Rs 6,497 ($69-96) per ton while the balance 66,084 tons arrived from Canada at a price band of Rs 5,554 – Rs 5,966 ($82-88)/ton.
December imports comprised 304,845 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 5,367 – Rs 7,320 ($80-109) per ton while 20,000 tons arrived from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 5,166 ($77) and 2,161 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 7,236 ($108).
