December 8: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag rose 45.54% to 733,064 tons in November 2015 against 503,692 tons in October month-on-month, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Steam coal imports in this calendar are showing a generally downward trend on account of more robust domestic production by Coal India Ltd.
In November 2014, steam coal imports through the port were higher at 880,560 tons.
With the November figures, total steam coal imports through the port in the first eight months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 stood at 5,075,083 tons against 6,656,990 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal (2014-15), showing a year-on-year drop of almost 23.76%.
Total steam coal imports for the entire financial year of 2014-15 stood at 9,671,349.

In November 2015, imports comprised a volume of 233,126 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 211 – Rs 3,039 ($3-46) per ton, 499,848 tons from South Africa in a price range of Rs 2,556 – Rs 4,172 ($39-63) and 90 tons from Colombo at a unit price of Rs 1,716 ($26).
In October, however, imports comprised a volume of 243,031 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 1,970 – Rs 5,223 ($30-80) per ton and 260,661 tons from South Africa in a price range of Rs 2,582 – Rs 4,123 ($40-62) per ton.
