Gypsum imports dropped a sharp 71.59% month-on-month in March 2016 to 56,041 tons against 197,301 tons in February 2016, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, throughout the current fiscal, import volumes of the material had been swaying wildly.
With the March figures, total gypsum imports for 2015-16 stood at 747,030 tons against 702,789 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal, edging up 6.29% year-on-year.
In March 2015, gypsum imports through the port had stood at 25,161 tons.

In March 2016, a volume of 54 tons arrived from Oman at a unit price range of Rs 4,781 ($71) per ton, 582 tons from Vietnam in a band of Rs 10,591 – Rs 10, 677 ($159) per ton, 55,259 tons from Iran at a price range of Rs 965- Rs 1,089 ($14-16) and 146 tons from the UAE at a unit price of Rs 9,948 ($146), amongst others.
In February 2015, a volume of 196,064 tons arrived from Oman at a wide price range of Rs 1,544 - 25,239 ($23-366) per ton while 1,237 tons came in from Vietnam in a band of Rs 2,540 – Rs 3,152 ($37-46) per ton.
