Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag declined by 54.95% to 399,944 tons in March 2016 against 887,707 tons in February 2016 month-on-month, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Steam coal imports, which had shown a gradual upward trend over the last three months, showed a sharp drop in March over February.
With the March 2016 figures, total steam coal imports through the port in fiscal 2015-16 stood at 7,666,590 tons against 9,671,349 tons recorded in the previous fiscal (2014-15), showing a year-on-year drop of 20.73%.
In comparison, in March 2015, steam coal imports through Vizag Port had stood at 517,130 tons.

In March 2016, imports comprised a volume of 257,760 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 1,510 – Rs 3,311 ($22-49) per ton, 19,250 tons from Mozambique in a band of Rs 3,233 – Rs 3,269 ($48) per ton and the balance 122,934 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 2,807 – Rs 3,630 ($41-53) per ton.
February 2016 saw 415,786 tons arrive from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 1,643 – Rs 3,217 ($24-47) per ton and the balance 471,921 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 2,614 – Rs 3,923 ($38-57) per ton.
