Vizag Port sees increase in coal stock levels
23 Feb 2016
The stocks of imported coal at Vizag Port have increased sharply during the past few days due to a surge in arrivals of vessels and subsequent lower despatches, a senior official from the port told ICMW.
The stocks of imported coal at the port surged to 0.945 million tons (mt) as on February 23 as compared to a low of around 0.623 mt as on February 19 on arrival of a large number of vessels, the official said.
The stocks of imported coal at the port varied between 0.45 mt and 0.65 mt during the past 3-4 months.
“At present, business and trading houses are fulfilling their import targets and as such they are bringing in slightly higher volumes, but the despatches have not increased commensurately due to various reasons and that is leading to a surge in stocks,” the official said.
ICMW had earlier reported, quoting an official, the port was expecting an increase in the arrival of vessels carrying imported coal in February, which is likely to surge further in March.
