Gypsum imports spurted by a sharp 120.88% month-on-month in December 2015 to 54,818 tons against November’s 24,817 tons, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, throughout the current fiscal, import volumes of the material had been swaying wildly.
In December 2014, gypsum imports through the port had stood at 49,869 tons.
With the December figures, total gypsum imports for the first nine months of 2015-16 stood at 403,817 tons against 650,249 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal, dropping 37.89% year-on-year.
Imports of the material for fiscal 2014-15 stood at 702,789 tons.

In December 2015, a volume of 53,607 tons arrived from Oman at a wide price range of Rs 1,162 - 10,643 ($17-158) per ton, 1,183 tons from Vietnam in a band of Rs 10,584 – Rs 10,663 ($157-159) per ton and 28 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 12,544 ($187).
In November 2015, a volume of 464 tons arrived from Oman at a price range of Rs 4,692 - 10,484 ($71-157) per ton, 218 tons from Vietnam in a band of Rs 10,841 – Rs 10,982 ($166) per ton and 24,135 tons from Iran at a price band of Rs 1,107 - 4,467 ($17-67).
