Gypsum imports spurted by 63.94% month-on-month in January 2016 to 89,870 tons against 54,818 tons in December 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, throughout the current fiscal, import volumes of the material had been swaying wildly.
In January 2015, gypsum imports through the port had stood at 26,673 tons.
With the January figures, total gypsum imports for the first 10 months of 2015-16 stood at 493,687 tons against 676,921 tons seen in the same period of the previous fiscal, dropping 27.07% year-on-year.
Imports of the material for fiscal 2014-15 stood at 702,789 tons.

In January 2016, a volume of 88,831 tons arrived from Oman at a price range of Rs 1,092 - 10,680 ($16-158) per ton, 655 tons from Vietnam in a band of Rs 10,663 – Rs 10,703 ($159) per ton and 146 tons from the UAE at a unit price of Rs 9,966 ($146), amongst others.
In December 2015, a volume of 53,607 tons arrived from Oman at a wide price range of Rs 1,162 - 10,643 ($17-158) per ton, 1,183 tons from Vietnam in a band of Rs 10,584 – Rs 10,663 ($157-159) per ton and 28 tons from China at a unit price of Rs 12,544 ($187).
