Vizag’s March coking coal imports up 5% m-o-m

April 9: Coking coal imports through the port of Vizag increased 4.80% to 517,130 tons in March 2015 against 493,435 tons reported in February 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In March 2014, coking coal imports through Vizag Port stood at 793,565 tons.
With this, in financial year 2014-15, coking coal imports through the port stood at 5,512,372 tons against a volume of 6,622,226 tons imported during 2013-14.
Consequently, in 2014-15, imports of the material dropped 16.76% against the previous fiscal.
Following is the monthly break-up of coking coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In March, imports included 370,342 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 6,642 – Rs 8,936 ($106-142) per ton, 38,223 tons from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 7,646 ($122), 45,000 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 8,029 ($127), 54,465 tons from Canada in a band of Rs 7,184 – Rs 8,388 ($114-133) per ton and the balance 9,099 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 7,367 ($117).
In February 2015, imports included 440,858 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 6,642 – Rs 8,374 ($106-134) per ton, 44,661 tons from New Zealand in a band of Rs 7,902 – Rs 8,058 ($127-129) per ton and the balance 7,917 tons from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 7,376 ($117).
