September 26: Due to the surplus power in the state, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL) is producing at lower than its actual generation capacity, state Power Minister Manish Gupta told ICMW.
"At present, we have surplus capacity so we are generating less electricity to reduce wastage. At present, we are generating on average 10-12% lesser than the actual generation capacity," the minister said.
He did not rule out the possibility of transferring the surplus power to the power deficit states of southern India, as and when the North-South Power Transmission Corridor is completed. The proposed corridor project is scheduled to be completed by 2016.
