Mysteel’s price assessment for premium medium-volatile (PMV) hard coking coal rose substantially by another $19.5/tonne on week to $255.5/t CFR North China as of May 14, refreshing a high since Mysteel commenced the assessment on November 4 2019. Tight domestic supply and surging domestic coking coal prices continued to drive Chinese end-users and traders to the global market last week, according to sources.

 

The on-week rise in the PMV coal price, mainly calculated on non-Australian PMV coal, took the price to this year’s record high, Mysteel Global noted.
