Waiting period for vessels at New Mangalore Port rises

11 Dec 2013

December 11: The waiting period for vessels at New Mangalore Port has risen to some extent in recent days due to the diversion of a large number of vessels to the port from Mormugao, following an increase in the waiting period at the latter, industry sources said.

"In recent days, a large number of vessels, that were originally scheduled to berth at Mormugao, ultimately diverted to New Mangalore because of the high waiting period at the former," they said.

The waiting period at Mormugao had increased because of limited space for stocking cargo after unloading. Now, a similar scenario is emerging at New Mangalore Port, they added.

According to available data, at least three vessels, carrying 155,100 tons of coal, are waiting for berth allocation since last week at New Mangalore while three other, with total volumes of 131,947 tons of coal, are scheduled to arrive on December 11.
