January 7: A weak trend prevailed in majority of the international coal markets, except Australia, on January 6 after participants from both the US and Europe returned to market post the holidays, market sources said.
“With majority of buyers expecting further softness in prices, the number of deals remained low during the day,” they said.
“A sharp fall in international crude oil markets also affected the sentiment as the expectation of a global economic uncertainty prevailed in the aftermath of reports that Greece is likely to come out of European Union,” said a trader based out of Kolkata.
The overall sentiment continues to remain grim, raising expectation of a further softness in coal prices, the trader said.
