June 6: A weak trend prevailed in international coal markets on June 5 amidst continued low demand from India and China even as domestic prices in the latter remained under pressure, market sources said.
While South African prices fell by $0.50 per ton (6,000 Kcal/kg NAR), the off-spec material (5,500 Kcal/kg NAR) remained largely unchanged. Australian steam coal prices, on the other hand, fell by nearly $1.00 per ton.
Indonesian prices continued to remain under pressure but a slight improvement was witnessed for the 4,200 Kcal/kg GAR material, they said.
