Weekly US coal carloads total 57,665, down 17.9% on year: AAR

Weekly US coal carloads totaled 57,665 in the week ended Jan. 16, down 5.1% from the previous week, Association of American Railroads data showed Jan. 20.
 
From the year-ago week, carloads dropped 17.9%, and compared with the five-year average of 81,178 for the second week, carloads were down 29%.
 
Coal produced 10.9% of all weekly US traffic in the second week of the year.
 
Canadian coal carloads totaled 7,873, up 8.9% week on week and up 97.8% from the year-ago week.
 
Weekly coal carloads from the four major US railroads totaled 61,569, down 37.3% year on year.
 
BNSF carloads totaled 26,518, down 3.9% from the week before and down 20% from the year-ago week. Out of the weekly traffic, coal produced 13.2% of all carloads.
