Weekly US coal train loadings average 75.8 trains/day, down 1.8 trains/d on week: STB

Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 75.8 trains/day in the week ended March 12, down 1.8 trains/day from the previous week, Surface Transportation Board data said March 19.
 
Year on year, loadings were up 6.9 trains/d. Loadings have averaged 70.1 trains/d over 11 weeks, compared with 77.5 trains/d in the year-ago period.
 
Powder River Basin loadings averaged 40.5 trains/d, down two trains/d week on week and up 2.8 trains/d from the year-ago week.
 
Loadings in the PRB averaged 38.1 trains/d over 11 weeks, compared with 44.5 trains/d year on year.
 
In the Illinois Basin, loadings averaged 6.2 trains/d, up 0.8 train/d from the previous week and up 3.4 trains/d from the year-ago period.
 
Through the year so far, IB loadings averaged 4.6 trains/d, up from four trains/day in the 2020 period.
 
Northern Appalachian loadings were 10.4 trains/d, up 0.1 train/d week on week and up 1.2 trains/d year on year.
 
NAPP loadings averaged 9.7 trains/d over 11 weeks, flat compared with the year-ago period.
 
Loadings in the Central Appalachian basin averaged 12.2 trains/d, down 0.1 train/d from the week before and down one train/day year on year.
 
CAPP loadings averaged 11.8 trains/d through 11 weeks, down from 13.2 trains/d from the year-ago period.
 
In other regions, loadings averaged 6.5 trains/d, down 0.6 train/d from the previous week and up 0.5 train/d from the year-ago period. Over the year so far, loadings averaged 5.9 trains/d, compared with 6.1 trains/d year on year.
