Adani Power's Butibori power plant begins supply to grid
15 Jul 2025
Adani Power has successfully started feeding power
into the national grid from its recently acquired 2×300 megawatts (MW) Butibori
power plant, although the plant is not yet running in full capacity, according
to information available with ICMW.
Recently, the company has
acquired the plant from Reliance’s Vidarbha Industries Power Limited (VIPL) for
Rs 4,000 crore in early July 2025. The plant was shut down in 2019.
VIPL was undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution
Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), hence there was
no chance of the power plant’s revival. However, Adani’s crack revival team came
to rescue, critical spares were flown in, specialized repairs carried out, and
a flurry of activity ensured that all licenses, permits, and statutory
approvals were renewed in record time.
Once
operational, the washery is expected to significantly reduce ash content in
coal, thereby improving its suitability for metallurgical use, especially steel
manufacturing.
