August 29: Spot prices of South African steam coal firmed up a bit on August 28 on expectations of higher European demand amidst reports of fresh tension between Ukraine and Russia, but other origin coals remained stable, market sources said.
Prices of standard South African coal rose by $0.50 per ton, they said.
Meanwhile, a sharp upward correction was witnessed in the freight rates on August 28 after a considerable gap during which prices were kind of stable, they added.
