CCL eyes to start production at 2 new mines in FY26

Coal India (CIL) arm Central Coalfields eyes to kick start production at two new coal mines during 2025-26 (FY26), which would ramp up its capacity by 10-12 million tons per annum (mtpa), according to a senior company official. These two mines are Kotre Basantpur block, a coking coal mine with a peak rated capacity of 5 million tons (mt), which is scheduled to start by October 2025 and Chandragupta open-cast project, a non-coking coal mine with a capacity of 15 mtpa, which is expected to start by March 2026. Further, the CIL subsidiary is planning to establish four new coal washeries with a cummulative capacity of around 14 mt over the next 2-3 years. Additionally, CCL will and also focus on increasing capacity of its existing mines, which aligned with the goal of reaching 150 mt production by 2030. At present, CCL operates 35 open-cast mines and three underground mines across 14 command areas in eight districts of Jharkhand.
