Coal India sees 4.2% rise in net profit

Kolkata: Coal India has reported a 4.2%
year-on-year increase in its consolidated net profit from Rs 10,498.4
crore in the first quarter of last fiscal to Rs 10,943.5 crore for this year.
The company’s revenue from operations grew 1.3% y-o-y at Rs
36,464.6 crore for the first quarter, compared to Rs 35,983.2 crore during the
same period last fiscal.
The PSU’s total expenses soared to Rs 24,287.4 crore for the period
under review from Rs 24,112.8 crore for the year-ago period.
Capital
expenditure grew 3% y-o-y at Rs 3331.4 crore in the first quarter. Coal
production grew around 8% y-o-y at 189.3 million tonnes during the first
quarter, while offtake rose by 6% y-o-y at 198.5 million tonnes. tnn

Telefonica's second quarter net profit dips to 447 million euros
Telefonica, a Spanish telecom operator,
reported a second-quarter net profit drop of 3.3%, amounting to 447 million
euros from 10.26 billion euros in revenue. This exceeded analyst projections of
336 million euros. The company's performance in the first half of the year
aligns with its annual targets. Telefonica also initiated merger discussions
with Millicom for their Colombian units.
