09 Sep 2024
Coal India plans to install five GW of
renewable energy capacity by 2028. The business is also planning to install
pump storage projects in its open-cast mines in order to diversify its green
energy portfolio. It is currently in various stages of discussion with other
nations to acquire vital mineral assets.
The PSU has formed a joint
venture deal with the state government to produce solar panels, generate solar
power, and supply the states with it. The states it has targeted include
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. 150 MW of the company’s solar
capacity has been put into service, and the remaining 450 MW are in various
states of completion and should be put into service by the end of FY25.
Central Mine Planning and Design
Institute (CMPDI), a consulting firm for Coal India, has also been
investigating and cataloging de-coaled mines that could be used for PSP
projects. There are already more than 200 de-coaled mines in the nation with a
land area.
