Coal India's January triumph: Record 67.55 MT offtake, 54.94 MT dispatch to power sector

The state-owned enterprise also recorded its highest dispatch to
the power sector in January 2024, with 54.94 MT, marginally higher than the
previous record of 54.9 MT in December 2023. This indicates CIL's key role in
meeting the country's energy needs.
New Delhi: State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL)
achieved a record monthly offtake of 67.55 million tonnes (MT) in January 2024,
surpassing its previous high of 66.56 MT in December 2023, Coal Secretary
Amrit Lal Meena said in a LinkedIn post.
The state-owned enterprise also recorded its highest dispatch to the power
sector in January 2024, with 54.94 MT, marginally higher than the previous
record of 54.9 MT in December 2023. This indicates CIL's key role in meeting
the country's energy needs.
CIL set a new benchmark in rake loading as well, with a total rake loading of
315.2 rakes per day and rake loading for the power sector at 288.4 rakes per
day in January 2024. These figures surpass the earlier records of 308.0 rakes
per day in March 2021 and 278.5 rakes per day in December 2023.

January 2024 saw the highest ever coal stock at Thermal Power Plants (TPPs)
maintained by CIL, reaching 36.2 MT. This figure exceeds the previous high of
34.46 MT in January 2020, ensuring a stable coal supply for power generation
across India.
Coal India Ltd on Thursday reported a 9.1
per cent rise in coal production at 78.4 million tonnes (MT) in January. The
company had produced 71.9 MT of coal in the corresponding month of previous
fiscal.
For the current financial year, the overall production for CIL stood at 610.3
MT, which is 78.2% of its full-year production target of 780 MT.
