India records 14.49 per cent increase in coal production in June 2024

Coal dispatches for the month also reflected strong
performance, totaling 85.76 MT, up by 10.15 per cent from 77.86 MT in the
corresponding month last year.
New Delhi: India registered
a 14.49 per cent increase in coal production in June 2024,
reaching 84.63 million tonnes (MT) compared to 73.92 MT in the same period last
year, according to provisional data released.
Coal India Limited (CIL)
contributed significantly to this growth, with its production rising to 63.10
MT, an 8.87 per cent increase from the 57.96 MT produced in June 2023.
Additionally, coal production from captive and other sources saw a substantial
increase, recording 16.03 MT, a 55.49 per cent growth from 10.31 MT last year.
Coal dispatches for the month also reflected strong performance, totaling 85.76
MT, up by 10.15 per cent from 77.86 MT in the corresponding month last year.
CIL's dispatches accounted for 64.10 MT, a 5.41 per cent growth compared to
60.81 MT in June 2023.
Dispatches from captive and other sources stood at 16.26 MT, showing a 43.84
per cent increase from the previous year's 11.30 MT.
The coal stock held by coal companies as of June 30, 2024, was reported at
95.02 MT, indicating a 41.68 per cent annual increase. Similarly, the stock at
thermal power plants reached 46.70 MT, up by 30.15 per cent from the previous
year.
