India's coal production reaches 11.94 MT, dispatch at 12.92 MT in November

Looking at the broader period from April to November 2023, the
upward trend in coal production and dispatch from captive and commercial coal
blocks is evident.
New Delhi: In a significant boost to
India's energy sector, coal production from captive and
commercial coal mines in November 2023 reached 11.94 million tonne (MT),
marking a robust 37% increase compared to the 8.74 MT produced in November 2022.
This growth is complemented by an impressive 55% rise in coal dispatch for the same month,
totaling 12.92 MT, up from 8.36 MT in the previous year. The data also informed
that the average daily coal dispatch from these mines in November 2023 set a
new record with 4.3 lakh tonnes per day, the highest ever recorded.
Looking at the broader period from April to November 2023, the upward trend in
coal production and dispatch from captive and commercial coal blocks is
evident. The total coal production for this period was approximately 83.90 MT, while
the total dispatch was at 89.67 MT. This indicates a year-over-year (y-o-y)
growth of 24% and 31% respectively, compared to the same period in the fiscal
year 2022-23.

Notably, the
most significant increase in coal production was observed in the Non-Regulated
Sector and Commercial coal mines, which witnessed growth rates of 101% and 98%
respectively.
The ministry has expressed its commitment to achieving the targeted coal
production and dispatch levels, underscoring their importance in ensuring
India’s energy security and propelling economic growth.
