Matter of survival’: Ukraine requests urgent coal shipment from Australia

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko says coal for Ukraine is more of a “lifeline”.

This comes as Ukraine has upped its appeal for an urgent humanitarian shipment of Australian thermal coal amid the threat of a possible major blackout.

“For Ukraine, coal is not a lifestyle choice – it’s a matter of survival and going through the winter,” Mr Myroshnychenko told Sky News Australia.

“We see that Russians are intensifying their attacks on civilian infrastructure, destroying power generation, electricity distribution.

“We don’t have access to our own coal, which is occupied by the Russians.”
