No bids for Goa’s coal block

The much-talked allotment of a coal block to the Goa government at Madhya Pradesh has come to an end with no bidders showing interest.
Goa received no Mine Developer and Operators (MDO) bids for the extraction of coal from the block allotted at the Dongri Tal-II in Madhya Pradesh.
In February this year, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) had invited tenders for the selection of Mine Developer and Operator. Since no bids were received till the bid due date, the bidding process was closed last month putting an end to the coal block, according to GIDC sources.
Union Ministry of Coal, New Delhi had allotted the coal block having a geological reserve of 43 million tonnes with high stripping ratio of over 15 to GIDC for commercial mining. It was a high grade coal.
The coal block was allotted two years ago and the Government of India kept giving extensions to GIDC at regular intervals to complete the bid process and the current extension/ deadline will end on September 30 this year.
